Marcia Roper, R. D. Registered Dietician
Marcia Roper is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator and contracts one week a month here at Tule River clinic. Marcia received her Bachelor of Science degree at Loma Linda University where she was honored with the Kathleen Keen Zolber award “In recognition for scholarship and future professional promise of outstanding achievement.” As an independent contractor she also contracts with the Northern Cheyenne Tribe one week a month. Marcia has written for several newsletters and has also published two books: “Medicinal Plants Used by Native American tribes in Southern California” and “Type 2 Diabetes: The Adrenal Gland Disease.” She is a member of the American Dietetic Association and the American Diabetes Association in order to stay current in her field. She has enjoyed teaching her program in a variety of venues including University of Oaklahoma, University of Washington, National Boys and Girls Club, NBC San Diego Broadcast, Woman’s Wellness Conferences, classes in different communities and Native American Future Leaders Camp just to name a few. She worked at Indian Health Council in southern California and was previously the coordinator and acting director for the Diabetes Program for Riverside, San Bernardino County Indian Health, Inc. where she served many reservations. Diabetes education and menu development were just a few of the variety of duties. With the help of the patients, this is where she developed a program called “The Healthy Plate Program” which has proven to prevent, control and reverse type 2 diabetes for those who follow it. She enjoys meal planning around this program and has done so at the Native Leaders Conferences in Pala and other places where she has served. It is her mission to empower patients with this information so that people can truly take control of their own health issues with lifestyle control.
