What PRC Does
Purchased/Referred Care (PRC) helps eligible community members receive healthcare services that aren’t available at Tule River Indian Health Center—such as specialty visits, hospital care, pharmacy services, or radiology.
If you qualify, PRC can cover the cost of approved medical or dental services from outside providers. Our goal is to make it easier for you to continue your care with trusted specialists when needed.
Who Can Use PRC Services
PRC is available to community members who meet specific eligibility requirements. To qualify, you must:
• Be eligible for Indian Health Service (IHS) direct care
• Live within the Tule River service area and meet residency requirements
• Receive authorization from the PRC office before your appointment
How Purchased/Referred Care Works
Here’s how the referral process usually goes:
- Your TRIHCI provider refers you for care that isn’t available on-site.
- The PRC team reviews and authorizes the referral before scheduling.
- You receive care from the approved outside provider.
- The PRC office coordinates payment for authorized services.
PRC is not an insurance program. Each referral requires approval, and patients should keep their contact and insurance information current so coverage can be verified.
Our team is here to guide you through each step and make sure you have what you need for your appointment.
Helpful Reminders
A few small steps can make a big difference in keeping your records current and your services covered:
- Keep your registration and contact information up to date.
- Report address, phone, or insurance changes immediately to the front desk.
- Notify PRC of any emergency visits within 72 hours.
- Always provide your current insurance details to help coordinate payment.
If You Need Emergency Care
If you go to an emergency room after TRIHCI hours, call (559) 784-2316 within 72 hours to report your visit. Emergency visits may qualify for PRC coverage only if the condition was a true emergency.
Note: Urgent care is not covered under PRC.
Pharmacy Information
If your prescription is approved through PRC, please use one of TRIHCI’s contracted pharmacies:

Common Questions About Purchased/Referred Care (PRC)
Services provided inside Tule River Indian Health Center are part of direct care and are available at no cost to eligible patients. PRC covers care you receive outside the clinic, such as specialty visits, hospital stays, or imaging, when those services are not available on-site.
